Australian Margaret Brandman has been composing since the age of 15. A product of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Brandman has enjoyed a broad spectrum career as pianist, arranger, author, educator and videographer for over 45 years. 2003 International Woman of the Year for Services to Music, Brandman’s compositions include a variety of instrumental combinations.
Her 2016 Navona Records release Sensations: Wind, Waves, Birds & Fire gives the listener an overview of Brandman’s aesthetic, from the subtle rustlings of her Autumn Rhapsody for Solo Piano (2012) to the vivid three-movement narrative of her Firestorm Symphony (2009). Other works on the CD include her adagio for strings Love Brings Change; Lyric Fantasy for Piano and String Orchestra; Undulations for Orchestra and three works for violin and piano - Binna Burra Dreaming, The Eastern Spinebill and the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos Herald a Blue Mountains Bush Fire and Jacuro Rhumba D’Amor. The CD concludes with Spirit Visions for Two Pianos. Artists on the Sensations disc are the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Petr Vronsky; pianists Margaret Brandman, Marcello Maio and Lucie Kaucká and violinist Vít Mužík.
